Joni
Maddox
is in her eleventh year as an Athletic Trainer at the University
of West Alabama. She is an Assistant Professor and also currently the
Clinical Education Coordinator for the undergraduate and graduate Athletic
Training Programs. Her primary sport responsibility is with the Men's
Basketball program. She also teaches several courses in both Athletic
Training Programs. In January Joni began as the Interim Head Athletic
Trainer for UWA.
Joni
received her B.S. in Athletic Training from the University of West Alabama
in 2007. Upon graduation from UWA, she completed a graduate assistantship
at Alabama A&M University while earning her M.S. in Counseling Psychology
with an emphasis in Rehabilitation Counseling. Following the completion of
her graduate assistantship, Joni took a position with Pro Impact Physical
Therapy & Sports Performance in Montgomery, AL where she was assigned to
Huntingdon College. During her time there, she served as the Co-Head
Athletic Trainer for 2 years followed by being named the Head Athletic
Trainer in July 2012. As the Co-Head Athletic Trainer she was primarily
responsible for the coverage of men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball,
women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and baseball. As the Head
Athletic Trainer her primary sport coverage consisted of volleyball, women’s
basketball, and baseball while providing assistance to other sports as
needed. While at Huntingdon College she also served as a preceptor to the
students in the Athletic Training Program.
Joni
completed her Doctorate of Athletic Training from A.T. Still University in
June 2018. She is looking forward to another year at the University of West
Alabama working with the athletic training students and sports teams. Joni
currently resides in Livingston with her husband, Troy Maddox, UWA Director
of Campus Recreation, and their son, Braden.
